A literally spectacular 1960s oil on panel scene of "The Greatest Show On Earth" by American artist Dennis Neville. This lively and colorful painting depicts throngs of people being herded into the main entrance to see "the big show" and into the big top. Images on the side of the tent show the female snake charmer and the fat lady...undoubtedly stars of the circus. Dennis Neville is well known as an American comic book artist who was working during the "golden age" of comic books in the 1940s and assisted Joe Schuster with the Superman comic series. This fabulously cacophonous painting is unsigned and was acquired with another of Neville's circus paintings that bears his signature. Recently cleaned and newly reframed in a new but retro weathered wooden frame with a gilt edge.
