A hand-carved fir wood totemic sculpture and base by the late American Artist Fred Schumm. Throughout his life, Mr. Schumm was fascinated with totem poles, at one time traveling across Canada and Alaska in search of native totemic art. His works were influenced by Native American and First Nation iconography, which is evident in this carved and painted sculpture. Tribal in feeling, it is also a nod to the modern works of Brancusi. Both the sculpture and the stand, which comprise one single, joined unit were hand carved by Fred Schumm and it is signed and dated Schumm 93.
