"Buffet" by American Artist Maryellen McDermott
"Buffet" is a 1950s oil on board composition by American artist Mary Ellen McDermott (1919-1998). McDermott was an artist who was trained in numerous disciplines and is best known as an enamel artist. "After about 1953, enameling became her preferred medium" (ref. Painting With Fire - Masters of Enameling in America 1930-1980 Page 270). In this abstracted composition, McDermott has used a sgraffito technique to pull-out objects that are not initially obvious. The painting is in its original wood frame. Signed and titled (with the original price of $90) on the verso.
