Monumentally Scaled Midcentury Credenza Designed by Renzo Rutili, circa 1960
A monumental walnut credenza designed by Renzo Rutili for the Johnson Furniture Company, circa 1960. The credenza is composed of three separate cabinets and a single four-drawer chest, resting on an eleven foot long base and terminating in six brass-wrapped feet. The drawer and door fronts have parquetry wood detailing, with every other square being turned 45 degrees to create a checkerboard effect. Affixed to the front of the credenza are finely chased solid brass mounts and handles displaying an Asian influence. The Johnson Furniture label can be found in the top drawer of the chest section. The entire credenza has been professionally polished and retains its warm, amber-toned original finish. Each of the legs has original leveling discs to accommodate for the length. Credenzas of this scale, quality and distinctive design are rarely available.
