Pair of Eames 670 Chairs & Ottoman

sold out

A "true pair" of early 670 lounge chairs with rosewood shells and black leather upholstered cushions designed by Ray and Charles Eames for The Herman Miller Co. By "true pair" we mean to say that these were manufactured side by side at Herman Miller. This extraordinary "mirror image" duo was acquired from the original owner, who purchased them in the early 1960's. They are in an immaculate state of preservation with restoration performed by the restorer of record, HUME MODERN in Venice, California. This pair has always been together and are sold only as a pair. One of the most fascinating facts about these chairs is the mirror image "book matched" veneers that were used on each shell. If you look at images #3 #5 and #8, you will see clearly that the same "cut" of veneer was used on each of the individual pieces, with the wood grain being virtually identical. The black leather cushions are in excellent, desirable broken-in condition and as designated on the labels are a 50/50 mixture of feathers and latex. Each of the chairs has a repair under the right arm which is not unusual for the 670 chair. Hume's restoration has minimized any visual evidence of these repairs. This pair is accompanied by a single period rosewood 671 ottoman with matching black leather upholstery.

Condition
Excellent. Repair to each chair under right arm. Otherwise...the leather is very fresh, the bases are clean and unmarred and the rosewood is healthy

Measurements
