A sensational two-drawer brass-clad chest made by Sarreid in the 1960s. The piece has been modernized with the addition of custom fabricated 1.25" thick clear Lucite plinth base. This base brings the piece up to bedside or sofa side height. The chest has been hand polished without removing any of the patination which gives it a warm, vintage look. This will mellow as brass does when not lacquered. The brass is in overall very good condition, with some minor scuffing and denting that is expected with vintage metal. The rows of nail heads that affix the brass to the underlying wood substrate are copper and add a geometric patterning to each case. The handles are created from thick, wrought brass. The piece is also completely finished on the back and can float when located in the center of a room.
